The set I’ve been waiting for so long has finally arrived… Currently there is no English content on Washizu Mahjong on the web. I’ll do my best to change that, and try to share the beauty of this variant with you. There were many transparent tile sets on the internet, but this one, being an official Akagi product, especially caught my attention. The case and the gloves that came with it made it further stand out. I did a lot of research on transparent sets before I purchased this one. Although the pictures of the Akagi set showed the pin-zu to be all black and red as they should, the sets on the pictures taken by players who had purchased transparent sets all had green pin-zu. Luckily, there are no green pin-zu in this set, and all the tiles match exactly the coloring of the tiles in the Akagi series. Before I begin, if you haven’t read or seen Akagi, the following pictures may contain spoilers. Continue at your own will.
鷲巣麻雀牌The set comes with two cases, one of them the original – official Akagi case, and the other, a metal case that looks very cool indeed. It also features four gloves and a bag that can compromise the hole in the Washizu Maajyan table.
The gloves are sadly made out of a thick fabric and thus not very suitable for playing. This is the original case. The red cusioned surface of the storage trays add to the charm. This additional case is great for carrying any type of set around. The refractions inside the tiles are exactly like in the anime. It is very easy to see the tiles of your opponents, especially the player sitting in front of you. The opaque tiles have yellow backs. I hoped to see the backs colored gray like in the anime, but for some reason all the transparent tile sets have yellow backs. And finally, the fateful ii pin! I can’t wait to play with this set. Once I make a suitable Washizu Mahjong table to play on, I’ll write all about it here. |
